Yay

Picked up a job. I get to move back and work at the Navy base back in my hometown, which means that I'll be able to live at my mom's empty beach-front condo as well.

The job is working as a contract specialist for the Professional Development Center on base. The job is initially a 2.5 year internship program which is basically managerial training at 50k/year, with the opportunity to be assigned to a real job afterwards which start at about 75 - 80k/year.

I'm pretty happy.

This is the only place I can really whine without anyone noticing, since I have too many facebook/twitter friends.

I need a job pleeeeaaaaaaassseeee. Just give me this government job that I allegedly "interviewed really well" with. It would satisfy everything! Quasi legal work, good pay, back at home, government public service debt forgiveness, cool government badge, and room to improve in the future!

Please please please please, someone just make it happen. I can't take the wait anymore.

I always feel bad about not updating, particularly if there are some things that may be important to those that read.

But whatever here's a quick recap:

1. Got engaged, not much else to say about it. Folks that talk to me knew it was coming, and that it's simply an expression of happiness that has already been achieved.

2. In finals right now, already done two and a paper, two more finals to go. I'm getting tired of school.

3. Moving from my room in a house DC to my own one bedroom apartment with Laura. That's what I can't wait for as hinted at the previous post. I'm tired of sharing a house with 7 others, especially when they're messy, inconsiderate, and don't care.

4. I have two jobs this summer, which is forcing me to stay here in DC. One's with Apple, as usual, but the other i is a Deans' Fellowship with the IP Clinic, managing caseload until fall semester.

5. Speaking of the IP clinic, I got in it for next year, which is going to take the majority of my time. I love IP and can't wait.

Well so here I am, waiting out the final day of my internship. It seem like its going to be another slow day, but the fact that it is your last sorta makes it even slower.

Next week I gotta pack and get ready to go to DC. After that I gotta get ready for work and school.

I'm having a lot of mixed feelings about leaving. On one hand I'd like to stay but on the other it'll be nice to go back and enjoy the change of pace, especially with the girl.

Sent via iPhone

Trips

So what's up guys? I just finished a trip to San francisco with my Nina and my mom. It was a great day and I had loads of fun. Went back to Stanford and met up with a friend. It was great, I miss the farm.

My girl got a job in DC. So if all goes well we'll be living together. I'm very happy, although some folks seem to think we'll get tired of each other.

Things at home aren't too good. It's causing me a lot of anxiety, which is definitely not a good thing for me. I'm just really tired of all the fighting. Its not like my mom is bad, its just that there's always lots of disagreements and I get scared of the repurcussions of said fighting. More to come from that, hopefully its not worse.

Sent via iPhone

I seem to get the majority of my inspiration on the road these days. Thankfully I have my iPhone.

Things are going ok. I'm just tired these days. My knee hurts really bad, and I'm not sure why. Just old war wounds I suppose.

Going back to DC in less than a month. I'm sorta looking forward to it. Especially since I'm taking a lot of classes I want as well as new apple things in store. And of course there's the girl coming to live with me.

Good times.

Eric Ford
2L, Washington College of Law
Sent via iPhone

So the courtroom is mighty boring today and there's not much to do so I decided I'd try and get mobile posting to LJ working. Of course I should be able to post normally via the site but the keyboard was running too slow on the website so I just decided to set up posting via email.

I still love the iPhone. Its a great tool for doing tons of stuff. Enough about that though.

Had lunch with an old teacher today. It was quite wonderful as I miss taking with her. She says she knows someone that would give me a lawyer job in la wyn I graduate which would be great.

I'm starting to miss DC even though I love it here. I'm just eager to get started on school again.

More to come!

Eric Ford
2L, Washington College of Law
Sent via iPhone

I got an iPhone. It's super fun. I love playing with it. It really is an amazing piece of technology.

Other than that, things are okay.l I've been doing my usual work at the court house. I think I'm getting better at legal research. It's so odd basically being given projects in which I help the judge decide these cases; cases that are tried by actual attorneys; reading briefs that probably cost thousands of dollars to write. It's interesting and fun.

Also, quick update on the contact end: I added an iPhone only email addy for those looking to have instant contact with me. It's yahoo, and it's push email, so when the email is sent, it goes instantly to my phone. Good deal.

In any case it's eric(DOT)iphone(AT)yahoo(DOT)com (replace words in parens with their symbolic equivalent; it's the usual attempt to prevent spam bots)

I love writing, and those that know me know that that's always been the case. However, it seems that real life has confined me to a life of writing things that I don't like, in a format devoid of any and all creativity and expression. Such is the life of legal rhetoric.

I didn't get decent grades in my writing classes this year. I believe I had a B- and a B for both semesters. My papers were okay, but there were always things wrong with them that I couldn't recognize before turning them in (or maybe I just didn't care). Everything always has to be to the point, without anything more.

Now sure, that's how it should be, but I wasn't brought up to write like that. I wrote poetry and short stories for over a decade before coming to law school, and it's slightly hard to kick that habit and do the complete opposite. But, the more I read the work of real lawyers, the more I see that these classes are BS, and that once you get in the real world you write horribly and there's nothing that can be done about it.

I need something to pop up on my computer ever night that tells me I need to write in this. I think that's the only way I'll be able to remember to do it.
